The objectives of WP 4 are to reframe the responsibilities and regulation of content creators and algorithmic pluralism in a hybrid media system. This includes exploring legal safeguards and responsibilities of media outlets and producers, defining approaches to tackle disinformation and harmful content online, and revisiting the role and responsibilities of online platforms as media infrastructures.

To reach these objectives, we will conduct a comparative study on national and EU-wide regulatory frameworks for social media platforms in relation to their role as media distributors. We will also examine how the implementation of algorithms in the hybrid media system affects pluralism. And we will be conducting research about fact-checking organizations to strengthen this sector to fight disinformation and harmful content. Finally, towards the end of the project we will engage with ongoing regulatory efforts in Europe for social media platforms that recognize their role as key infrastructures for media production and consumption.
