The presentation entitled “Conflicting perspectives on journalism: Peripheral actors’ changing position in the journalistic field and its possible impact” was presented by Alice Němcová Tejkalová and Kateřína Turková at the Future of Journalism Conference 2025 in Cardiff. The research based on data collected for the Worlds of Journalism Study and Horizon Europe project Resilient Media for Democracy in the Digital Age in 2022–2024 compared the peripheral and traditional journalists’ perceptions, values, and roles. The findings revealed that both traditional and peripheral journalists focus on the feedback from the audience and on providing entertainment. On the other hand, both sub-groups differed in the perception of the ethical aspects, and the peripheral journalists felt more freedom in selecting stories and the way of sharing them. Moreover, the research dealt with the question of who defines news and how they should look like.
