More than 150 academics, journalists, and representatives of European and Czech media organisations met up at Charles University in Prague (and online) on February 10th and 11th for the ReMeD conference on “Regulation and accountability in a hybrid media system”. The two-day event had some lively discussions on the major challenges facing journalism today, based on the initial findings from the ReMeD studies. Many interesting questions with no easy answers laid the foundations for future reflections.

Věra Jourová, former European Commission’s Vice-President and current Vice-Chancellor of Charles University, delivered a fascinating lecture on the EU’s role in safeguarding media freedom against digital platforms. Jourová was instrumental in regulating the media space during her previous mandate, notably through the introduction of the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), the Digital Services Act (DSA), and the Artificial Intelligence Act. For this conference, ReMeD collaborated with another Horizon Europe project, Mapping Media for Future Democracies (MeDeMAP).
